Microsoft, Nokia and Apple’s New Lumia Phones

September 17, 2013

Last week I spent a great vacation with my family on my favorite island in the German North Sea.

Juist

During this vacation I mostly stayed away from the web, news and social media (apart from occasional Instagram posts). That’s a thing I usually do during family vacations because during these rare times I really like to focus on spending time with my family and not getting distracted by the daily madness happening on the web.

Naturally, as the presentation of the new iPhones happened during this week, I missed this event completely (ahem .. not that I had cared much about it otherwise).

But when I saw pictures of the event and the newly presented phones a week later, I was quite … surprised and my first reaction was:

Checking on Twitter, I found similar reactions by Microsoft / Nokia. That’s the one I liked most:

As this tweet says, imitation is flattery and that’s a good thing as it clearly indicates that what Microsoft / Nokia have been doing with Windows Phone and the Lumia device series was the right way. Now others follow suit and copy their design principles (I am also looking at you iOS7), which is fair enough but still, it raises one important question for me:

Has Apple stopped being an innovator?

It pretty much seems that way and people finally seem to realize that. This is a great chance for Microsoft / Nokia to gain even more traction in the smart phone market and convince more people of Windows Phone’s superiority. The Lumia 520 e.g. is an awesome “gateway drug” into the WindowsPhone universe. Give it a try.
